Aircraft Recycling Base Starts Operation in Northeast China

An aircraft recycling and rebuilding base was put into operation on June 8th in Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province.

The base will repair, disassemble and reassemble aircraft, as well as manage and sell aircraft materials.

Covering 300,000 square meters, the base can handle 20 aircraft each year. The base was paid for by Aircraft Recycling International (ARI), headquartered in Hong Kong.

Previously, recycling of China's aircraft was mainly conducted by US and European companies and was costly and time-consuming, said Li Yuze, the general manager of Zhonglong Aircraft Disassembly Base Company, which operates the base.

With the increasing service life of civil aircraft, maintenance costs, fuel consumption, and the decline of their flight safety and comfort, some old aircraft have entered the final stage of their life. After 15 to 20 years, civil aircraft are usually retired or modified to cargo aircraft.

About 90 percent of an aircraft's spare parts are still valuable, and they can be put on the market after testing and certification. Currently, a lot of top international airlines are using second-hand spare parts.

Globally, more than 1,000 aircraft need to be dismantled and recycled annually, and the aircraft dismantle sector is expected to net about $10 billion a year in revenue.

Under this background, Civil Aircraft Operation Support Technology International Forum(CAOSTIF) will discuss the topics about the development of China recycling market. The conference will be held on September 13th-14th in Chengdu, China.
