Honeywell JetWave Satellite Communication System Air China A321 Modification Project Successfully Obtained Certification

Feb 14,2022

On February 8, under the cooperation of Honeywell and Beijing Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. (Ameco), Ameco successfully completed the modification of Honeywell MCS-8420 JetWave satellite communication system for Air China Airbus A321 aircraft , and obtained the Supplementary Type Certificate (STC) issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. This is the first cabin Ka satellite communication system modification project with independent intellectual property rights completed by a Chinese MRO company. The successful certification of this project will further promote the development of domestic in-flight interconnect services, help airlines improve operational efficiency and improve passenger flight experience.

Honeywell¡¯s MCS-8420 model JetWave satellite communications system is designed to connect to China¡¯s Ka-band satellite network and can be deployed in connectivity solutions for China¡¯s airline fleet. After the installation of the system, the fleet can access high-speed Internet, which not only enables passengers to experience high-speed Wi-Fi at an altitude of 10,000 meters, but also helps the crew to better manage the aircraft, reduce fleet fuel costs and avoid aircraft delays.

Honeywell¡¯s MCS-8420 model JetWave satellite communication system was approved to access China Satcom¡¯s Ka high-throughput satellite network in November 2021. In August of the same year, Honeywell and Lufthansa Technik obtained the Supplementary Type Approval (VSTC) issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China for the Airbus A320 model equipped with this type of satellite communication system modification project. The prototype of this type of satellite communication system was first launched in 2018 and exhibited at the first China International Import Expo, and in 2019, it carried out flight and ground tests in China on Honeywell¡¯s Boeing 757 connected aircraft, showing good results.

Under this background, the 4th Annual Connected Aircraft China Congress 2022 will be held on April 26th- 27th, 2022, Beijing City.
