The 'Lingyan' AG50 light sport aircraft, independently developed by the Special Aircraft Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as SAFRI) under AVIC, has officially entered the market with its first order for two units of its upgraded version.
The AG50 is designed for general aviation markets, including aviation clubs, flight schools, private pilots, and commercial operators. The SAFRI R&D team adopted a 'market-driven' approach, conducting in-depth research and implementing a series of optimizations based on user feedback. Key upgrades include:
Extended Range: Fuel tank capacity has been increased, boosting the aircraft's range from 650 km to 1,200 km, significantly expanding operational flexibility.
Enhanced Handling: Improved tail and rudder design for superior flight control responsiveness.
Increased Safety: Added wingtip navigation lights and a ballistic parachute system for improved visibility and emergency safety.
Localized Materials: Achieved full supply chain independence for key components, enhancing market competitiveness.
The upgraded AG50 features a single-engine, high-wing configuration with side-by-side seating, balancing utility and comfort. Its all-composite airframe ensures lightweight durability, while a side-stick control system delivers smooth handling. The aircraft is equipped with SAFRI's proprietary integrated avionics suite, further elevating flight safety. Notably, it runs on standard 95-octane automotive gasoline, with an average fuel consumption of just 10L per 100 km—comparable to a family sedan—making private aviation more accessible than ever.
The two AG50s are scheduled for delivery to Jinan Low-Altitude Economy Development Co., Ltd. by year-end, where they will serve in aerial tourism, flight training, agricultural operations, and sports aviation. This milestone underscores China's growing prowess in cost-effective general aviation solutions.
