China’s Self-developed Large-scale Amphibious Aircraft AG600 Kunlong Aircraft 1003 Completed Its First Engine Test Run

IT House reported on February 10 that the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) now announced that the 1003 engine of the AG600 “Kunlong” aircraft completed its first test run on February 8 and was successful.

According to reports, after completing the cold run test that day, the aircraft completed the first test run in the order of No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 engines. The systems of the four engines were in good condition and the parameter indications were normal, laying the foundation for the follow-up work. At present, the commissioning, inspection and various on-board ground test preparations for AG600 aircraft 1003 before the maiden flight are progressing steadily.

AG600 “Kunlong” 1003 is a large-scale special-purpose civil aircraft (firefighting/water rescue) amphibious aircraft independently developed by the aviation industry, known as “flying ship” + “swimming aircraft”.

In December 2021, the AG600 “Kunlong” 1003 aircraft was completed and removed from the shelves in Zhuhai, marking the official completion of the installation of the aircraft’s body structure and airborne systems, and entering the ground joint debugging and testing stage, which also marked the success of the project. Completing the 2021 annual target and tasks is another major progress in the development of the project.

As one of my country’s “large aircraft families”, AG600 is a large-scale special-purpose civil aircraft developed for the first time to meet the urgent needs of fire fighting and water rescue. It is a major aviation equipment urgently needed for the construction of the national emergency rescue system. At present, it is undergoing a large number of scientific experiments and test flights, and it is expected to be completed and put into use by 2024.

On July 26, 2020, AG600 successfully achieved its maiden flight at sea near Tuandao, Qingdao, Shandong. At the previous air show of the 13th China International Aviation and Aerospace Expo, the “Kunlong” AG600 has successfully completed the first demonstration of the flight water casting function. 9 tons of water fell from the sky, showing a powerful firefighting and rescue ability! The scene was very shocking.

At the ceremony, the AVIC General Aviation Party Committee expressed warm congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the cadres, workers and all suppliers who have worked hard in the development of AG600 aircraft 1003 aircraft.

According to the official introduction, AG600 aircraft 1003 officially entered the final assembly stage from June 24, which lasted 186 days. A number of key tests such as final assembly work and air tightness test of pressurized cabin, power and environmental control system, pressure test of hydraulic system, and conduction of the whole aircraft avionics system have been carried out.

It is worth mentioning that the AG600 aircraft, together with the Y-20 strategic transport aircraft and the commercial C919, is also known as the “three brothers of domestic large aircraft”. It is the largest amphibious aircraft under development in the world, which can meet the urgent needs of forest fire fighting and water rescue. It is regarded as an important equipment for the construction of China’s natural disaster prevention system and emergency rescue system.
