The 9th CAPTF Was Successfully Held in Changsha City

Dec 20,2021

The world of aviation technology is undergoing a tremendous technological change. With the implementation of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the future of aviation propulsion technology will meet the increased demands for safety, reliability, environmental adaptation and affordability. While traditional small and medium engine technologies continue to be developed, new aerospace power technologies will see new opportunities for development. Green and efficient aircraft engines will be a powerful support for the efficient operation of the global economy and society.

The 9th China Aerospace Propulsion Technology International Forum 2021 was successfully held in Changsha City, Hunan Province from December 16th-17th 2021. The Forum is hosted by the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics; supported by the Editorial Department of Aerospace Power ; and organized by Galleon(Shanghai) Consulting Co.,Ltd.

PAN SHANGNENG
Chief Division / Nature Section Researcher
AECC Hunan Aviation Powerplant Research Institute

Small and medium-sized aero engines have the characteristics of high speed, small size and complex structure. The aerodynamic coupling that exists between the aircraft and the engine has a major impact on the stable operation of the engine. In his presentation, PAN SHANGNENG introduced the high performance simulation capabilities currently available, a wide range of turbulence models and various aerodynamic simulation methods and test methods such as integrated helicopter/engine aerodynamic simulation, particle separator steady-state aerodynamic simulation, impeller mechanical constant flow simulation, impeller mechanical non-constant flow simulation at the AECC Hunan Aviation Powerplant Research Institute. At the end of his speech, he mentioned that the future aero-engine aerodynamic design simulation will develop along two directions: high-fidelity 3D simulation technology represented by LES large vortex simulation and low-dimensional real-time simulation technology represented by machine learning.

Dr. WANG ZHI
Head of Electromechanical System Dept.
China Helicopter Research and Development Institute

Focusing on the macro, Dr. WANG ZHI shared the development trend of power systems from the perspective of helicopter host platforms. He mentioned: in the next ten years, the total demand for helicopters is more than 2,000, and the development of domestic helicopters will directly drive the demand for engines. In the future, helicopter power systems will be characterised by the following trends. Conventionally powered helicopters with advanced turboshaft engines will continue to play an irreplaceable role in aviation with their irreplaceable capabilities. The application of new technologies in the "digital-intelligence" era will give it a new lease of life; Emerging new propulsion concepts such as electric and hybrid propulsion will emerge with new configurations of rotorcraft, offering greener, more comfortable and more economical solutions to meet the new demands emerging on the market. In the face of new challenges, the "community of interest" between the engine and the host manufacturer needs to work more closely together to provide power units that meet the needs of future rotorcraft from the source of development, with the goal of optimising the matching of flight/engine platforms and achieving mutual benefits for common development.

LIU ZHIWU
Technical Expert, Aero Engine Machine Manufacturing
Researcher Level Senior Engineer
AECC Xi¡¯an Aero-Engine Ltd.

As the jewel of modern industry, the aero-engine reflects the level of a country's manufacturing industry. The related technology is also classified as an important national industry. The complexity and uncertainty of the process of assembling an aero-engine places relatively high demands on assembly, levels and processes. Compared to advanced foreign technology, the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of engine assembly, the application of information technology automation and intelligent technology is still an area that needs continuous development for domestic engine assembly. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, AECC Xi'an Aero-Engine Ltd. has taken the following path in the development of "digital intelligence" assembly. Continuing to promote the upgrade of the assembly pulsation line to an intelligent assembly line for aero-engines. Conducting research on digital twin-driven aero-engine assembly technology. In-depth advancement of human-machine collaborative AR assembly operation guidance technology and equipment application scope. Predictive analysis of the fit state of typical rotor connection structures and process optimisation. Promote the engineering application of visual inspection technology for aero-engine errors and omissions in assembly lines.
